The Rabbi at my synagogue spoke a week ago about what Holy is. Holy (Kadosh in Hebrew) is about separation, about a distinction, something not like anything else, totally unique. Generally, since G-d is Holy, we usually regard it as something good and unholy would be things that are not good, but it is more accurately something that is set apart. For example the ground where Moses walked up on Mount Sinai, where G-d told him to remove his sandals, for the ground was Holy. The ground was different than the ground a few step before. It was totally unlike that ground, because the presence of the L-RD was on that place.
Shabbat is also Holy, separated from the rest of the week. It is actually the Holiest of Holy days. That makes the separation between the rest of the week and Shabbat something very important. Take off your sandals, for it is Shabbat. But, I thought of something else that was rather interesting to me.
Shabbat is certainly a very special, Holy time. It was created for us. It was separated from the rest of the week just for us. To do whatever we wish? I would think not, but it was created for us. How do I know? Well in Mark, when question by the Pharisees about some of the practices of his followers, Yeshua replied:
- Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” – Mark 2:27-28
So, Shabbat was created as a time to get closer to Him that is Holy. Experience His Holiness, observe the Shabbat.
Pray on these things.
