Song for Shabbat (May 4, 2007)

Categories: Faith, Music, Shabbat, Shabbat Song

After my previous post about Shabbat, it seemed very natural to pick “We Delight” as this weeks song. On Steve McConnell’s site he has the entire song in mp3, so I thought I would link there for the song:

The lyrics, also from his site are as follows:

1) Avinu Malkeynu our Father our King
Lord we Delight in Your Shabbat!
We enter Your rest and Your praises we sing!
Lord we Delight in Your Shabbat!

Chorus: We delight, we delight, we delight in Your Shabbat!
We delight, we delight, we delight in Your Shabbat!

2) In six days You painted the face of the earth
And carved out a day when You’d rest from Your work

3) You brought forth a nation from Abraham
and spared his son Isaac providing the ram

4) The prophets foretold that Messiah would come
Sh’ma Yisrael the L-rd G-d is one!

5) And just as You rested when Your work was done
we enter Your rest by the Work of Your Son

6) The lillies You dress and the sparrows You feed
You Elohim provide every need!

7) Your people will enter Your rest when we cry,
“Baruch ha ba b’Shem Adonai!”

And I already gave verses on the post about Shabbat, but one I came across after that speaks to the Gentiles is Isaiah 56:1-8:

Thus says the LORD:

“Keep justice, and do righteousness,
For My salvation is about to come,
And My righteousness to be revealed.
Blessed is the man who does this,
And the son of man who lays hold on it;
Who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And keeps his hand from doing any evil.”
Do not let the son of the foreigner
Who has joined himself to the L-RD
Speak, saying,

“The L-RD has utterly separated me from His people”;
Nor let the eunuch say,

“Here I am, a dry tree.”
For thus says the L-RD:

“To the eunuchs who keep My Sabbaths,
And choose what pleases Me,
And hold fast My covenant,
Even to them I will give in My house
And within My walls a place and a name
Better than that of sons and daughters;
I will give them an everlasting name
That shall not be cut off.
“Also the sons of the foreigner
Who join themselves to the L-RD, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the L-RD, to be His servants-
Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath,
And holds fast My covenant-
Even them I will bring to My holy mountain,
And make them joyful in My house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
Will be accepted on My altar;
For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
The Lord G-D, who gathers the outcasts of Israel, says,

“Yet I will gather to him
Others besides those who are gathered to him.”

Shabbat Shalom, have a great rest in Messiah.
