Song For Shabbat (June 1, 2007)

For today I have a fun song by Relient K. called Must Have Done Something Good. The song makes me think of how blessed I am by having a wonderful wife like I do. There is a Shabbat tradition of reading Proverbs 31:10-31Open Link in New Window each week as part of the Shabbat dinner. I sometimes read the verse to my wife and other times I modify the tradition to just tell my wife more personally how she has been a great wife to me this past week. So this weeks song is about how wonderful it is to be blessed with “an excellent wife.”

Lyrics:

We should get jerseys
Cause we make a good team
But yours would look better than mine
Cause you’re out of my league

And I know that it’s so cliché
To tell you that everyday
I spend with you is the new best day of my life
And everyone watching us
Just turns away with disgust
This jealously
They can see that we’ve got it going on

I’m racking my brain for a new improved way
To let you know you’re more to me than what I know how to say
You’re OK with the way this is going to be
Cause this is going to be the best thing we’ve ever seen

If anyone could make me a better person, you could
All I gotta say is I must have done something good
You came along one day and you rearranged my life
All I gotta say is I must have done something right
I must have done something right

Maybe I’m just lucky
Cause it’s hard to believe
Believe that somebody like you’d end up with someone like me
And I know that it’s so cliché
To talk about you this way
But I’ll push all my inhibitions aside
It’s so very obvious
To everyone watching us
That we have got something real good going on

I’m racking my brain for a new improved way
To let you know you’re more to me than I know how to say
You’re OK with the way this is going to be
Cause this is going to be the best thing that we’ve ever seen

If anyone could make me a better person, you could
All I gotta say is I must have done something good
You came along one day and you rearranged my life
All I gotta say is I must have done something right
I must have done something right

If anyone could make me a better person, you could
All I gotta say is I must have done something good
You came along one day and you rearranged my life
All I gotta say is I must have done something right
I must have done something right

And the Bible verse:

The Woman Who Fears the Lord

10 An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12 She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14 She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15 She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17 She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18 She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19 She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20 She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
21 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
26 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27 She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.

Shabbat Shalom all. B”H
