Funny how the web can take you from one place to a totally unrelated other place so quickly. I was reading the original post I linked to in my previous post, and one of the comments used the words “A.N. Other” in their post. I had never heard of this and was unsure if it was a typo or an actual person, so being a good tech guy, I plugged A.N. Other into Google and the first result was from Wikipedia, so I checked it out. It was there explained to me that this is a common British placeholder name, like John Doe would be in the U.S. As a matter of fact, there was a link to the Wikipedia story about John Doe there, so I clicked to check it out. This story had a list of different placeholder names from different countries, including others from the United States. Here is what is listed for the Unites States:
John Doe, Jane Doe, John Q. Public, Joe Blow, Joe Schmoe, Joe Sixpack, John Smith, Eddie Punchclock (for blue-collar workers), Joe Botts (particularly in New York City), J. S. Ragman (U. S. Navy), Vinnie Boombotz (particularly in New York City)
J.S. Ragman and Vinnie Boombotz put a nice smile on my face. Vinnie Boombotz!
