Song For Shabbat (July 20, 2007)

I may have to modify this one after Shabbat. At work they block video (no YouTube, etc), as well as streaming audio, so I am going to try and get this posted, but if it does not work, I will have no idea until much later.

For this week I wanted to preview the new album from BarlowGirl, a group that I enjoy their music very much. Even though I am far from their target audience, I still like to rock and BarlowGirl rocks, so I listen. I pre-ordered the new album and received this week, so I have had a week to listen to it before it is even available in the stores (it will be released on July 24th).

One song that has stood out to me is one called Keep Quiet which seems to encourage us not to be ashamed of mentioned the Name of our Messiah, whether you call Him Jesus or Yeshua, you should not be ashamed.

Here are the lyrics:

Oh the things I’ve sacrificed
So that I could bring you to this world
I want them to see you in me
But your name just keeps them far from me

So I’ll keep quiet
Let’s hope they see I’m different

Chorus:
Jesus, Jesus why’s your name offensive
Why are we so scared to tell the world that you’ve save us
When all of the hope of the worlds is in your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh Jesus, yeah Jesus

If I avoid to speak your name
Tell me would you do the same to me
If relevance becomes my goal
Tell me will I lose you to its hold

But if I keep quiet
They’ll never see I’m different

Chorus:
Jesus, Jesus why’s your name offensive
Why are we so scared to tell the world that you’ve save us
When all of the hope of the worlds is in your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh Jesus, whoa Jesus, yeah

I’m sorry that I’ve cared about my name more than yours
I’m so sorry how could I hide you anymore

But if I keep quiet
They’ll never see I’m different

Chorus:
Jesus, Jesus how why is your name so offensive
Why are we so scared to tell this world that you’d saved us
When all of the hope of the world’s is in your name
Why are we so scared to say
Oh Jesus
Whoa Jesus x3
Ohhhh…..

Each week at services, when the invitation is given, anyone that raises their hand, Rabbi asks one thing of them after their prayer, and that is to come up and shake his hand and then return to their seats. He explains that Scripture says if you acknowledge Him before men, then He will acknowledge you before G-d (Matthew 10:32-33Open Link in New Window). Whether we use the name Jesus or Yeshua, we need to put Him first and in this I mean that we should not be ashamed of our faith in Him, whether we are at work or at play. We need to stand up for our faith and our Messiah. It is important to remember that any negative opinions that may be formed of you by others are actually negative opinions of G-d, so remember it is G-d that is being rejected and not you.

As a Jewish believer, I all to well know that we want to be accepted. Being a minority in a minority, it would be nice to have more acceptance by the Jewish community. However if that means somehow hiding my faith, well that is something I am not willing to do. Sometimes we need to just stand up for who we are and if someone else does not like that or is offended by it, well that is their deficiency and not our own.

Let them see that we are different. Shabbat Shalom.
