Let’s go back for a second track from the new BarlowGirl album, “How Can We Be Silent“. I will also include a mini review. Being a middle age guy, what am I doing listening to BarlowGirl, you might ask. Well, I am a rocker and these “girls” rock. I can’t get past that. Plus they have awesome voices so it is a pleasure to listen to them. Thirdly, and perhaps most impressively is that the lyrics are right on cue. Even though they may be writing more towards young girls and women, I think they hit most of the topics square on the head and the themes are ones that I think we can all relate to. Some of my favorite song from this album are “Song for the Broken,” “Keep Quiet,” “I Believe in Love” and this weeks song, “One More Round. To me the song is about continuing on no matter what the adversary or the world throw at you. Just keep on running the race. Here is a sample of the song:

And the lyrics:

Round one wasn’t what I thought it’d be
Round two I’m struggling to breathe
3,4,5,6,7 times I wonder why I stepped inside this ring

I may be knocked down and so bruised
But I’m here to tell you
I may be knocked down but not for the count- 1,2,3, 4

So take me one more round
I’ll just keep fighting
One more round
You messin’ me up but I’m still here
One more round
I’ll come out swinging
One more round
I’m telling you now I’m not gonna lose it here, yeah

It’s so hard to get up off the floor again
But I know that victory is when
I’m pushing through the pain that tries to feed me lies that I won’t reach the end

I may be bloodied and so bruised
But I’m here to tell you
That I may be knocked down but not for the count- 1,2,3, 4

So take me one more round
I’ll just keep fighting
One more round
You messin’ me up but I’m still here
One more round
I’ll come out swinging
One more round
I’m tellin’ you now I’m not gonna lose it

I am not defeated
Though you cannot see it
I have never won a battle on my own
I find strength in weakness
I find hope believing
God is for me- who can bring me down?

So take me one more round
I’ll just keep fighting
One more round
You messing me up, oh, but I’m still here
One more round
I’ll come out swinging
One more round
I’m telling you now I’m not gonna lose it here

Shabbat Shalom. B”H
