Weathermen, Prophets or Monday Morning Quarterbacks

Sometimes I see and hear things that some see as a true connection between God’s judgment and current events. It could be true, but it could also be because of any number of reasons. This post is an example of that. To me, while I know God is active in the world, I do think a great number of things are something akin to automated systems put into place by God and they just run their course. Weather, to me, seems to be one of them. Storms come and go and hit various parts of the world. To assign this storm to God’s judgment and that one to just being a storm seems to me to be a bit of a reach, although there could be judgment reason for each one, however it seems to be just the cycle of creation. Well before there was a United States, I am sure fires scorched the west and trees burned and then new growth came. Hurricanes hit the coast destroy everything in it’s path and then new growth occurs. Yet, these same things happening today are assigned a special reason, and only when they hit the US. The fires in Southern California also crossed the border into Mexico, yet Mexico is not forcing Israel to divide Jerusalem or anything like that. Plenty of hurricanes both before and after Katrina have hit and caused extensive damage to the Caribbean islands and to Central American countries, as well as to other parts of the world, without the need to assign them to certain events regarding Israel.

It seems somewhat presumptuous to just assign reason to certain natural events, without assigning them to all natural events. Maybe sometimes we can just admit that we do not have all the answers and just trust God in all things, instead of having to come up with a reason for every fire and storm that comes our way and assign it to judgment. Now, if one was to just claim the promise to Abraham of Genesis 12:3Open Link in New Window, and state that these storms may be a part of that, then I would say OK, that is a reasonable assumption, however proclamations like this seem to bit a bit over the top to me. I am not out and out doubting them, but I think they go a bit too far. So, I think the assessment of the wrongness of the policies towards Israel have a great deal of validity, I would not concur to the correlation of these polices and to the storms that have occurred at roughly the same time.

I couldn’t agree with you more. The article over at stangoodenough.com only draws in the kooks (take Jonathan for example).

Thanks for the comment EndTimesMan. I took a look at your site, and I am not sure I totally agree with you either.

My point was that a post like the one I pointed to selectively takes events and unequivocally attributes a certain purpose to them. That might be God’s purpose in those events, however when other similar events have taken place over time, and these events do not have the same purpose it makes it all seem rather contrived.

I will look more at your site and the things you are professing to. In the brief time I have looked so far, I have seen some things I agree with and seem in accordance with Scripture, and some that seem to maybe be a bit of assumptions that I do not necessarily subscribe you. Regardless I wish blessings upon you and may God bless us and show favor upon us as we search His Word.

Thank you as well. I would be happy to discuss any of the beliefs I hold to, just as I know you would as well. Be assurred I believe nothing except that it can be supported by Scripture. If Scripture is your foundation for your beliefs (I am certain it is) then we have much to share with one another.
    God Bless
