I was listening to an interesting radio discussion. It comes from a San Francisco radio broadcast aimed and the homosexual community there. The guest that show was Dr. Michael Brown and it was an interesting and informative discussion between the 3 hosts and Dr. Brown. I felt Dr. Brown did a very good job at presenting the Biblical position while showing a great deal of compassion.
One think that stood out to me was when the female host of the show worked to show her qualification as a believer. She said that she tithes, which she did not think Michael Brown would have 20 close friends that tithe (I would easily say that I do and would think that Dr. Brown does as well, although it is a hard think to qualify, since it is a personal matter that most do not think it Scriptural to brag about. Obviously she is of a different opinion). She also felt that in other ways she was very Christ-like and had a hard time accepting the idea that it might be possible that she could go to hell and compared to straight neighbors living somewhere near her.
Isn’t this interesting. This person, who considered themselves a Christian, was basing their value and qualifications as a Christian, as a believer and follower of God and the Messiah in the things they do or do not do. So salvation seems to be something she thinks she has earned regardless of what she does in the bedroom. Does not Scripture and the beliefs of most Christians and most churches speak that we are saved by faith and not by our works? That tithing is not going to earn us eternal salvation, that helping out people in the community, while a nice thing, will not be enough to earn entrance into the Kingdom of God? (Ephesians 2:8-10
)
After the time with Dr. Brown was over, other hosts were thanking him for his time and the spirit in which they discussed thing. The female host needed to continue the discussion with a closing comment on what was natural to her. Then after he was gone and they were recapping, she admitted to wanting to pummel him. Very interesting.
They also next went to a guest from a church that they considered truly Christian that was working to help AIDs victims and tossed the biggest softball questions to that guest. It was interesting the contrast between the types of question and attitude Michael Brown received as compared to the next guest, who was obviously not of the mind that this lifestyle choice was sinful.
The last thing I will note is in their closing remarks after Michael Brown was off the phone, they were amazed that in his arguments, Dr. Brown lumped homosexual behavior in with other sinful sexual behaviors. However he also had in drunkenness and greed for money, two sinful behaviors that might be more associated as sins of those of the right of the political spectrum. If one regards these things as sin, then they certainly are comparable to other sins listed in Scripture, especially when in Scripture it is listed right along side of these other behaviors. It seems to more unrealistic to separate this one behavior from the list. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11
and 1 Timothy 1:8-11
)
Here is the audio of the broadcast. I edited it to remove the commercial breaks, the news breaks and the gay-friendly car dealership ads in order to save time. I also cut out the person after Dr. Brown. If you want to here the whole broadcast in full you can here.
