There is a family at our Synagogue that recently went through quite an experience. Through that experience that got to see much more about how God works. It is an incredible thing, very sad and at the same time, very joyous. You can see more about what happened on their blog, which includes a video going over some of the events.
Their experience got me to thinking as to how there are things around us that most cannot even see, and that reminded me of commercials I saw while my kids were watching television a few months ago, commercials for a movie, “The Spiderwick Chronicles.” Not exactly knowing the story, but from the ad it appeared that there was a world of creatures that the average person could not see. In one part of the ad, a boy throws something at the girl in the ad and when she looks through it, she can see these creatures. I found this an interesting idea, for I do see that in actual life.
It seems to me, when I am in fellowship with other believers, spending time in the Scriptures, in prayer, etc.; that I can much more clearly see the hand of God in my life and all around me. When I am not doing those things, miss services for some reason, seem to busy or distracted to spend much time in Scripture, etc.; that God suddenly seems less involved, almost less real.
Isn’t this something, how after time spend apart from God, the world starts to slowly choke out even the vision of God from our perspective? Are these Scriptural ideas? I think so. Check out:
- Deuteronomy 29:4

- Isaiah 6:9-11

- Jeremiah 5:21

- Ezekiel 12:2

- Matthew 13:11-13

- Mark 4:11-12

- Luke 8:9-10

- John 16:12-14

- Romans 11:7-8

- 2 Corinthians 3:12-16

So, involving ourselves with God, reveals more of God all around us. At least that is how I see all of this. It seems for this family the covering of the Spirit of God reveal a great deal about what they experienced. Many others experience similar events, yet come away with a much different perspective, and I would think that might be because they are seeing it through earthly eyes and not Godly eyes.
For myself, I want to see more, I want to see all that there really is, for through that
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom and the man that getteth understanding; for the merchandising of it is better than the merchandising of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared to her. Length of days is in her right hand, and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and happy is everyone that retaineth her. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath He established the heavens; by His knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. My son, let not these depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion; so shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace around thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble; when thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid; yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked when it cometh; for the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being snared. (Proverbs 3:13-26
)
The wisdom spoken of in these verses is the wisdom of God, or better yet the Word of God. It is Scripture. We say each week at services these verses in regard to the Torah, that it is a tree of life, for if you go back and see the beginning of Proverbs chapter 3, you will note that it starts by speaking of not forgetting the Torah and keeping the commandments. So the association with the Torah to this wisdom that is a tree of life seems very natural. Anyway, by seeing the hand of God working around me, I can better walk down that path, for I know that the path is a path of shalom, peace. Fear and worry will not come over me, for I know that there is One greater than any earthly fear. It is a great place to be. I work to be better at staying in that place, for so often the world does come and my vision again becomes blurry. This or that happens, and I start to worry about it, for I am not seeing that presence of God all around. But climb back into the Word, back on my knees and I can again let go, and again find that peace.
Thank you Lord for giving these eyes to see.
